Hunting Equipment: Five Fundamental Rules to Keep in Mind
Saturday, October 17th, 2009If you’re new to the world of hunting, you might not be aware of the rules on using your new hunting gear. It is our intention that everybody should be secure and have fun with their new hunting equipment, so we urge you to follow all these safety precautions so that your next hunting escapade can be an exciting journey:
#1: Use all weapons carefully.
The first fundamental regulation has to do with the straightforward rule of not being haphazard with a loaded gun. Always point it in a safe direction. Never aim at anything you don’t intend to kill. Never be uncertain about what object you’re shooting at when looking through the gun sights. Keep guns unloaded until you’re ready to take a shot. Finally, leave your finger away from the trigger until you’re ready to fire the gun. You should also treat all weapons the same as if they are loaded. There have been many instances where a person believed a weapon to be empty only to have it shoot without warning—a fatal outcome.
#2: All targets should be easy to see and identify|Make sure you can see your target plainly|Any target needs to be easy to recognize|Your target should be clearly in your sight and identifiable}.
If you can’t tell what it is—don’t shoot! People have accidentally shot other people (including children) thinking at they were looking at an animal. When you actually aim to shoot at something, make sure it is in a clearing where you can see around it. If the animal is on a hillside or ridge, don’t fire because you aren’t sure what may be beyond the ridge.
#3: Learn current laws regarding the using specified hunting gear.
In the recent past, bows and arrows were an excellent option for killing game. But, it is not against the law to hunt for animals by using archery equipment. You can do target practice with a bow and arrow.
#4: Safeguard yourself.
Don’t make yourself a target for a novice shooter. Make sure to wear vibrant clothes so it is easy to see that you are a person. It is also a good idea to have eye and ear protection. The glasses will shield your eyes from gases released out of the gun. The ear protection may keep you from destroying your hearing because of the loud sound that comes from firing.
#5: Pursue the game you are after in a dignified manner.
